Kyra's Succesful Sista Profile:
Kyra shares her success story and personal experiences as a black woman in business.
Did you always want to be a Business Woman?
I have always wanted to be a business owner.
What motivated me was seeing my Dad go to work every night for 30 plus years, working the graveyard shift making a living for the family. Then work at what he really loved which was helping young people go to college. If he could have worked for himself it would have left more time for him to do what he and my mother loved. (Helping Young People)
How would you describe your experience as a Black Entrepreneur?
It has been the most rewarding experience being a Black Entrepreneur. I have had this dream since I was a little girl. I have always thought outside the box, and I have always like to work hard.
Looking back on your business decisions, is there anything that you would have done differently?
I would have started earlier owning my own businesses, and I would have taken more classes on being a Black Entrepreneur.
Did you have any formal business training? Do you think this is important to be successful?
I did not have any formal business training. I found really good role models along the way. I do think it is good to have some training along the way. Two of my sons are attending school for Accounting and Business Administration. They have given me a lot of good advice which helped me to avoid some really bad decesions.
What funding sources have worked for you?
Our family income has helped to fund my business. I have never used any bank loans etc... for my funding.
How has family/friend support financially or otherwise affected your business efforts?
