My passion for skin care products with quality and something different, lead me to research ingredients to nourish the body and bring back those familiar scents I grew up with. I was looking for familiar and fresh, something playful and fun. I think I have it and I am very proud of my products. My customers have reported my products are great moisturizers and the scents are everything I intended them to be. My mission has remained to provide my customers with an excellent product, while stimulating the senses. I will continue to research ingredients of the earth, in order to introduce my customers to something new, making it “Naturally Innovative”.

Business Bio:

Naturally Innovative, is the introduction of something new, comprised of body butter, salt and sugar scrubs, creamy body washes and bath accessories. We are currently working on bath teas and hair treatment oils. We are motivated by the needs of our customers to relax and enjoy there private time with a unique experience. We hope to continue to provide this with new additions; positive images along with unique scents and a great product in the coming year.

Kristal Simms-Banks shares her success story and personal experiences as a black woman in business.

Did you always want to be a Business Woman?

Yes, as a young girl I would create crafts, to sell and dreamed of businesses to operate. My mother said she always knew I would own my own business, most likely in skin and body care, because I was constantly trying to find unique products and when I couldn’t, I would create my own mixture. I totally agree with my mom, I knew I would, just wasn’t quite sure how and when I would start my own business.

How would you describe your experience as a Black Entrepreneur?

I am so excited about my products; I have worked very hard for years to develop something new and different. Something that would remind the consumer of their childhood flavors and scents which was made with as many natural ingredients as possible. There is a lot of hard work involved and I have chosen a tough market, but somehow I manage to stay focus and continue to work toward my goal, of providing a unique product and a lasting experience, when my products are used.

Looking back on your business decisions, is there anything that you would have done differently?

I would have started sooner; I had the ideas and was determined to create something special. I was nervous about the success of my business, now I am more focused on providing an awesome product. I am doing what I love. I believe it will all work out.

Did you have any formal business training? Do you think this is important to be successful?

No, My knowledge about being an entrepreneur comes from daily operations and a lot of research. Business training isn’t necessary but I do believe it is worth seeking. I am open to all avenues to help me reach my goal.

What funding sources have worked for you?

My husband is awesome; he has been very supportive as well as the supplier for the funds for this business and works hard, right along beside me, providing his expertise which are greatly needed for the growth of this business

How has family/friend support financially or otherwise affected your business efforts?

My family was there from the start providing there expertise and encouragement, this venture would not have been the same without them and my friends have been supportive and have reported they love my products.

How do you work on making your business grow?

That is the hard part, getting your product to the masses. I have participated in events, flea markets and other venues and will continue to market my product by all means made available.

What words of wisdom can you share with other business women?

Never abandon your dream, it will be difficult, but always remember to believe in what you do and do it well. I would not be doing anything else right now.
